Looking at aplay, the only listed sound device is:

            'card 0: rsnddai0ak4642h [rsnd-dai.0-ak4642-hifi], device 0: rsnd-dai.0-ak4642-hifi ak4642-hifi-0 []'

Which I presume is the generic line-out on the board. I would expect HDMI to be a listed device but it seems not.

Is this known Stephen Lawrence ? I know for previous GDP iterations the use of external speakers has been recommended.

The pulseaudio user service which hooks into the am_poc.pa expects the master sink device to be 0,0 meaning that the AM Monitor does not fall over, as it did with the minnowboard as 0,0 exists.

Are you asking whether I expect HDMI to be an available alsa device by default?

ok wasn't sure My belief is that only the ak4642 on-board audio codec is enumerated as an alsa sound card and it's selected as the playback source.

So to use the monitor audio either run a physical cable between connectors (assuming the monitor has audio input) or you would need to add support for the HDMI encoder as an alsa audio output (assuming the alsa or pulse audio frameworks can not automate such a connection through other means)

Indeed, it is the enumerated alsa sound card, which just so happens to be configured as 0,0

I was just wondering if there was anything say via uboot that could be set ' bootargs_audio audio=HDMI-1' or something along those lines. I don't think it's a critical issue either-way

Tom Pollard not that I am aware of. I checked the BSP doc set and the Alsa doc only mentions the audio codec. It is available in gen 3

We're dropping official support for Faytech.
